Edwin Rodriguez enters his third season with Cleveland and first as a Special Assistant after spending the previous two campaigns as manager for High-A Carolina (2012) and Double-A Akron (2013). In his new role, Rodriguez will use his experiences as a manager, coach and scout to impact all areas of the Player Development system, with an emphasis on infield play and Latin American player plans and transitions.

Prior to joining the Indians, Edwin managed the Florida Marlins for parts of two seasons from June 23, 2010 to June 18, 2011, becoming the first Puerto Rican-born skipper in MLB history. Prior to his stint with the Marlins, he managed in Florida's Player Development System from 2005-10, first joining the organization in 2004 as Hitting Coach for the [then] Double-A Carolina Mudcats. Rodriguez managed Short-A Hudson Valley (1999) and Rookie-level Princeton (2000-02) in Tampa Bay's system after seven years as a coach/scout with the Minnesota organization from 1989-96.

Rodriguez appeared in three Major League seasons with New York-AL (1982) and San Diego (1983, 1985) after getting signed by the Yankees as a minor league free agent in 1980. He was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and went on to earn an accounting degree from Pontifical Catholic University.
