COACHING CAREER

The former Padre returns to San Diego for his first season on the Major League coaching staff and will work primarily with infielders. Spent the previous four seasons with the Houston Astros, most recently as the manager for Single-A Advanced Lancaster for the 2016 season after serving the previous two seasons as the club's developmental specialist focusing on infielders. After the 2015 season, he managed the Santurce Cangrejeros of the Puerto Rican Winter League in what was his managerial debut.

PLAYING CAREER

Played professionally for a total of 18 years, including nine seasons in the Major Leagues with the Mariners (2001), Padres (2002-04), Red Sox (2005), Indians (2005-06), Rangers (2007-08) and Pirates (2009). In 2009, he played for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic. Originally selected in the 27th round of the 1995 MLB Draft by Seattle.

PERSONAL

Full name is Ramon Luis Vazquez...he and his wife, Griselda have a son, Nomar, and a daughter, Sofia ...resides in Cayey, Puerto Rico...a native of Aibonito, Puerto Rico...attended Indian Hills Community College in Centerville, Iowa...is currently the president of the "Juntos Dando la Mano" foundation in Puerto Rico.
