The 2013 Pirates Charities CARE-a-van, presented by Highmark, visited 15 cities over three days to make a significant impact in surrounding Pittsburgh communities. The community tour began on Wednesday, December 11 and culminated with the 2013 PirateFest, the Pirates-themed indoor baseball carnival at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center that took place on Saturday, December 14 and Sunday, December 15.
The 2013 Pirates CARE-a-van took part in more than 25 community events over three days as three busses consisting of players, coaches and broadcasters left PNC Park on Wednesday, December 11 and returned on Friday, December 13. The CARE-a-van particpated in community events with area non-profits and schools throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.
Pirates personnel and Pirates Charities, the philanthropic arm of the Pirates, partnered with local non-profits to assist with projects and services as well as visit with schools and organizations in and around the greater Pittsburgh area. Players, coaches, broadcasters and front office employees donated their time and talents to help make a difference in each community visited.
