The Red Sox retired Hall of Famer Jim Rice's No. 14 and initially made him smile with a five-run third inning, but closer Jonathan Papelbon blew a three-run lead and Nick Green made two errors in the ninth inning, before Manny Delcarmen allowed the A's to win it in the 11th.
