While their hosts certainly were pesky against Brad Penny, the Red Sox stayed a step ahead of the Nats. Jason Bay went 4-for-6 with a homer that evened the score in the second, and Jason Varitek's sac fly plated the go-ahead run in the seventh. In the eighth, Boston poured it on.
