Manny Ramirez hit his 499th career homer, a three-run shot in the sixth inning that tied the game and picked up Daisuke Matsuzaka, who left after four innings with shoulder fatigue. But the Sox were shut down after that, and reliever Mike Timlin allowed the game-winner in the ninth.
