Scott Kazmir continued his mastery of the team with baseball's best record on Monday, shutting down the Red Sox over seven innings in the series opener at Fenway. Kazmir fanned 10 and reached 200 strikeouts for the first time in his career. The Rays have now won three straight.
Curt Schilling was very good on Monday against the Rays, but Scott Kazmir was better. The Boston right-hander allowed just one run over six innings, but the Rays lefty tossed seven scoreless innings. The Red Sox lost, 1-0, at home for the first time since Sept. 2, 2001.
