For the second game in a row, the Orioles got on the board with a solo home run in the first inning. This time, it was Nick Markakis going deep off Julian Tavarez. Baltimore notched two more runs off the Red Sox starter in the second and Miguel Tejada hit a solo shot in the eighth. Steve Trachsel worked six solid innings and left with a lead, but once he handed the game to the 'pen, the outcome changed hands.
With Wednesday's scheduled starter Kason Gabbard traded to Texas for Eric Gagne, Julian Tavarez stepped in to face the Orioles. The reliever went five innings and allowed three runs in his first start since July 18. The Red Sox put up a big seventh, led by David Ortiz, to sink the O's.
