One night after Daisuke Matsuzaka got the better of a duel with C.C. Sabathia, Josh Beckett was barely bested by Cleveland's Fausto Carmona. Beckett allowed just one run, on Franklin Gutierrez's solo homer in the third, but Boston's win streak came to an end after the bats were silenced in David Ortiz's return to the lineup.
