The Red Sox scored 15 runs in their previous game, but the offense was held to two runs on five hits in the opener with the Tigers. Julian Tavarez struggled, allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits in just 4 2/3 innings. Coco Crisp got the Sox on the board with an RBI single, and Doug Mirabelli homered in the top of the ninth.
