The Rays rallied with four runs in the seventh inning but could not overcome the hole starter Edwin Jackson placed them in during his five innings of work. Jackson allowed seven runs while striking out five and walking one in falling to 1-9 on the season. Carl Crawford had three hits and Raul Casanova had two.
Tim Wakefield's dominance over the Devil Rays continued on Independence Day, as the veteran righty knuckled down to send the Rays to their 10th straight loss. Wakefield pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits to improve to 16-2 in his career against Tampa Bay.
