Tavarez takes tough loss
Julian Tavarez was charged with six runs, but only three were earned, on six hits over 4 1/3 innings as the Red Sox dropped the opener of their three-game series with the Mariners. J.D. Drew and Kevin Youkilis drove in two runs apiece to account for Boston's runs.
