Before he even took the mound, Julian Tavarez had a big lead, and the veteran took care of the rest, tossing seven impressive shutout innings. J.D. Drew led off the game with a home run, and Coco Crisp, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez and Eric Hinske also went deep.

Carlyle can't corral Sox

The night got off to a rough start for Buddy Carlyle, who gave up a leadoff homer, and didn't get much better as he allowed seven runs in just 3 2/3 frames. Meanwhile, the Braves could not solve Boston's pitching, collecting five hits in the series finale.
