8/29/2014 | End of August represents benchmark in turnaround

8/28/2014 | Marlins try to solve Santana, make up ground

Three straight games with the second-place Braves beginning Friday night will be telling if the Marlins are to remain within striking distance of the National League Wild Card. Miami's Tom Koehler draws the starting assignment for the series opener at Turner Field. In three starts against the Braves this season, Koehler is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA. He will put that success to the test opposite Ervin Santana, who is enjoying a terrific second half.

8/28/2014 | Rare Hech homer not enough to pick up Alvarez

In his 117th game and 431st at-bat, Adeiny Hechavarria connected on his first home run of the season Wednesday night. Naturally, the Miami shortstop was met by the mandatory "silent treatment" in the dugout. Unfortunately for the Marlins, their offense remained silent the rest of the night. Hector Santiago yielded one run in 5 2/3 innings and Mike Trout belted a homer and drove in two runs to lift the Angels to a 6-1 win over the Marlins.

8/27/2014 | Stanton clarifies remark, maintains stance on future

Speculation is coming at a rapid rate, but there is one constant about Giancarlo Stanton's stance when it comes to questions about his future. The Marlins slugger is dealing in the here and now. Anything else must wait.

Growing up in Thousand Oaks, Calif., Christian Yelich regularly attended games at Dodger Stadium. But dating back to when the Marlins left fielder was 8-years-old, he had a connection to the other baseball team in Los Angeles. In his early seasons playing youth baseball, Yelich attended camps run by Angels manager Mike Scioscia.

8/27/2014 | Big frame dooms Eovaldi in Marlins' loss

Avoiding the big inning has been an issue of late for Nathan Eovaldi. It plagued the Marlins' right-hander once again on Tuesday night. The big damage off Eovaldi came in a five-run fourth inning that propelled the Angels to an 8-2 victory over the Marlins at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.

8/26/2014 | Injured hip likely to cost Morris rest of road trip

DeSclafani is one of seven Marlins prospects heading to the AFL to play for the Salt River Rafters.

8/26/2014 | Marlins ask Alvarez to step up again vs. Angels

When Jose Fernandez went down, Henderson Alvarez filled some big shoes. The 24-year-old Marlins righty has taken on a leadership role, and for the first time in his career, he's an All-Star and a 10-game winner. Alvarez picked up victory No. 10 at Colorado last week, and he looks to build on that number in Wednesday night's series finale with the Angels, who will try to reward Hector Santiago.

8/26/2014 | Marlins hope Eovaldi can harness power vs. Halos

Nathan Eovaldi remains one of the hardest throwers in the game, repeatedly bringing his fastball in at 95 mph and over. What's plagued the right-hander lately has been inconsistent offspeed pitches. And he's been prone to the big inning. Eovaldi has struggled since the All-Star break, posting a 1-4 record with a 5.31 ERA in seven starts. The Angels, meanwhile will go with right-hander Matt Shoemaker, who no-hit the Red Sox for 6 2/3 innings last Thursday before Will Middlebrooks doubled.

More than an Interleague series is taking place at Angel Stadium this week. The three-game set that began on Monday very well might be matching two players that will go on to win their respective league's Most Valuable Player Awards. For the first time in the regular season, Giancarlo Stanton of the Marlins and Mike Trout of the Angels were on the same field. The only other occasion they were together was at the All-Star Game at Target Field in Minnesota.

8/25/2014 | Red-hot Ozuna cleans up; McGehee down to fifth

With Casey With McGehee hitting .247 in August entering Monday, manager Mike Redmond opted to make a change with his No. 4 hitter. So in the series opener on Monday at Anaheim Stadium, Ozuna was moved to the cleanup spot for the first time all season.

But as soon as shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria came down with the grab in no-man's land, Redmond remembered who he was dealing with.
