Red Sox win challenge, get call overturned
By Ian Browne / MLB.com
BALTIMORE -- After a rough start on Wednesday night in Baltimore, the Red Sox had some good fortune in the bottom of the fourth inning when they challenged a close play at second base and were rewarded with an inning-ending out.
With the defense shifted to the right side of the infield, third baseman Xander Bogaerts made a diving stop on a grounder by Nick Markakis. Bogaerts, stationed near the shortstop position, shoveled the throw to Dustin Pedroia. Baserunner Nick Hundley was originally called safe, with a run scoring.
But Boston manager John Farrell challenged, and the call was overturned after one minute and 58 seconds. Of Farrell's 12 challenges this season, seven have been overturned.
Instead of trailing, 5-0, the Red Sox remained in a 4-0 deficit to the Orioles.
