BOSTON, MA - The Boston Red Sox today recalled left-hander Drake Britton from Triple-A Pawtucket. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. was optioned to Pawtucket. Britton will wear No. 66 and will be active for today's 4:05 p.m. ET game in Oakland.
Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.
For Britton, 24, this is his first career major league stint. He was promoted to Pawtucket on July 5 and made his Triple-A debut in a start at Lehigh Valley on July 9. Entering the season, Britton was rated the No. 2 left-handed pitcher in the Red Sox minor league system by Baseball America.
Through three separate stints with the Red Sox this year, Bradley, 23, has hit .155 (9-for-58) with three doubles, two home runs, and seven RBI in 23 games. He was recalled this past Tuesday, and started that night against the Seattle Mariners, going 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk at Safeco Field. Bradley will rejoin Pawtucket where he has hit .297 (55-for-185) with 18 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 21 RBI, and has scored 33 runs in 45 games.
