BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red will deliver 1200 turkeys to 12 food pantries and food banks throughout New England today as part of the club’s “100 Acts of Kindness” initiative. With the assistance of food distributor SYSCO, Red Sox staff will visit a pair of organizations in all six New England states and deliver 100 frozen turkeys to each location. In addition, Red Sox staff will assist at the Boston Living Center’s “Celebration of Life Thanksgiving Dinner” tomorrow. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the club’s association with the Boston Living Center.
Organizations to be visited as part of today’s distribution of 1200 turkeys include:
· The Family Pantry of Cape Cod in Harwich, MA and the Open Pantry (Emergency Food Pantry) in Springfield, MA
· Amazing Grace Food Pantry in Middletown, CT and Covenant Soup Kitchen in Willimantic, CT
· Caribou Ecumenical Food Pantry in Caribou, ME and Danforth Food Pantry in Danforth, ME
· Colebrook Area Food Pantry in Colebrook, NH and Lincoln-Woodstock Food Pantry in Lincoln, NH

· Northeast Kingdom Community Action in St. Johnsbury, VT and Great Falls Community Kitchen in Bellows Falls, VT
Tomorrow night, the Red Sox will help serve dinner to guests at the Boston Living Center’s “Celebration of Life Thanksgiving Dinner.” On November 25, 2002, the Red Sox joined Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the Boston Living Center in presenting the center’s annual Thanksgiving dinner at a time when budget cuts endangered this tradition. The dinner has remained the annual, signature event of the Boston Living Center, which offers free programs and services to those living with HIV/AIDS. This year’s “Celebration of Life” will provide more than 600 guests with a free, full-course Thanksgiving dinner as well as musical entertainment. The Red Sox will also be making a cash donation to the center.
This dinner and the deliveries of turkeys to 12 New England food pantries comprise the 82nd through 94th acts of the club’s “100 Acts of Kindness” initiative.
As a way to highlight and support the important work done by the many charitable institutions throughout New England and beyond, the Red Sox have been engaging in “100 Acts of Kindness” with various not-for-profit organizations during the 100th anniversary season of Fenway Park in 2012. These acts include donations, volunteer efforts, and community events. Each act has been designed to highlight organizations and causes throughout New England. Red Sox ownership, players, alumni, and staff have participated. The final six acts will be announced in the coming weeks.
