Evans representing Sox at next month's Draft
By Evan Drellich / MLB.com
At this year's Draft, Evans will serve as one of two Red Sox club representatives at Boston's table responsible for phoning in the team's picks. During the Draft's broadcast, Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig will announce the first round, including Boston's top pick at No. 24, and the player reps themselves announce the picks for the supplemental first round.
Blair Henry, a Midwest area scout for the Sox who signed Lars Anderson, joins Evans at the table.
The annual First-Year Player Draft takes place this year from June 4-6, beginning with the first round and Comp Round A on Monday, June 4, at 7 p.m. ET. The first night of the event will be broadcast live on MLB Network and streamed live on MLB.com. Rounds 2-40 will also be streamed live on MLB.com on June 5-6.
Evans, an outfielder, broke into the Majors with 18 games in 1972 after being drafted out of Chatsworth High School in California. From 1973-90, he reached double-digits in home runs every season, and he played every year of his career with Boston except for his last in '91, when he was with Baltimore. He won eight Gold Glove Awards to go along with the .272./.369/.473 line he posted with the Sox.
