Youkilis set for rehab with PawSox

Injured first baseman will likely rejoin club Wednesday

SEATTLE -- Kevin Youkilis has grown tired of answering questions about not playing, so the news that he'll be back on a baseball field Monday got him to at least talk a little bit.

Boston manager Terry Francona said Youkilis, on the disabled list with a sore left oblique, felt good after participating in some hitting drills early Saturday. He will leave Seattle for New England on Sunday night and will likely join Triple-A Pawtucket for the PawSox's Monday and Tuesday games. The goal is for Youkilis to rejoin the Red Sox at home against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.

The first baseman said he'd go with whatever plan the team had for him.

"I'm feeling better," he said. "Hopefully, everything goes good [in Pawtucket]. Hopefully, I'll just get out there and play and hope everything goes well, and then be out there Wednesday, ready to rock."

Francona said Youkilis will likely start in Pawtucket at designated hitter and then progress to four or five innings at first base.

"We'll get him ready for Wednesday," Francona said. "He wants to go and get some at-bats."
