Beckett comfortable after playing catch

Right-hander scheduled to start Tuesday against Yankees

TORONTO -- Red Sox starter Josh Beckett played catch on Friday with "no complaints" and is scheduled to throw a side session on Saturday, according to Boston manager Terry Francona.

The right-handed Beckett, who was originally scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Blue Jays, had his start pushed back to Tuesday because he was experiencing numbness in the pinky and ring finger of his right hand.

Francona said that the team would re-evaluate Beckett's status as the day went on, but gave no indication that the pitcher would not be able to make his scheduled start against the Yankees.

Francona also said that recovering starter Tim Wakefield would throw a side session on Saturday. Wakefield has been sidelined since Aug. 7 with tightness in the back of his right shoulder. Francona did not offer a return date for the knuckle-baller, though.
