Sox's Lugo misses fifth straight game

Shortstop to be examined by specialist Thursday in Boston

BALTIMORE -- Red Sox shortstop Julio Lugo, who missed his fifth straight game on Wednesday because of a mild concussion, said he will be examined by a specialist in Boston on Thursday.

"I'm going to see a specialist [Thursday] -- a head specialist," said Lugo, who was injured in a collision at second base Friday in Minnesota and has not played since.

Lugo has slowly resumed baseball activities over the past few days, but continues to experience headaches. Bench coach Brad Mills, who is managing the Red Sox while Terry Francona attends his mother-in-law's funeral in Arizona, said Lugo has made some progress, but stressed that Lugo's activities have been scaled back because the team wants to be cautious.

"I feel good now -- just want to make sure everything's right," Lugo said. "They're going to check my head."

When asked whether a trip to the disabled list was a possibility, Lugo said, "I don't think [so], but we'll see what they say."

Alex Cora replaced Lugo at shortstop again on Wednesday.
