Schilling takes step in recovery

Veteran has no shoulder discomfort after throwing from 60 feet

MINNEAPOLIS -- Another throwing session, another baby step forward for Curt Schilling on his road to recovery.

Schilling threw an estimated 40 pitches from 60 feet on Saturday, and he reported there was no discomfort in his right shoulder.

"It'll be awhile before we get a real good read about things," Schilling said. "We're just kind of taking it as it comes. The first week felt great."

Schilling said he'll throw again on Monday.

The veteran right-hander first experienced shoulder pain in January. He received a cortisone shot in February. Schilling has been undergoing a vigorous strength and conditioning regimen and will gradually increase distance and volume in his throwing program.
