Teammate Kevin Youkilis presented Pedroia with his latest award before Wednesday's contest at Fenway Park against the Detroit Tigers.
"It's a huge honor for everybody to vote on me for that award," said Pedroia. "I definitely respect the game and love playing this game, and for other people to notice it -- not just teammates but players on other teams -- that's an honor."
Youkilis liked the fact that players around baseball appreciated Pedroia's value to the Red Sox last season.
"To win an award, especially from your colleagues, that's always a huge thing," said Youkilis. "To win awards that are voted on by Major League baseball players and to be respected by your peers, that's always what you appreciate most, because sometimes it's a popularity contest. When it's Major League baseball players, it's a little bit more of an accomplishment in my mind."
Pedroia set the record for a rookie second baseman with his .317 batting average. He finished in the top 10 in the American League in batting average and led all rookies with 39 doubles.
In Pedroia's honor, the Major League Baseball Players Trust will award a $20,000 grant to his hometown Little League in Woodland, Calif.
