Ortiz leads Red Sox past Twins

Slugger's clutch hitting propels Boston to a win over Minnesota

Red Sox at the plate: David Ortiz roped a two-run single and added a sacrifice fly. Mike Lowell smashed his third homer of the spring, a solo shot in the second inning.

Twins at the plate: Leadoff man Luis Castillo had two hits and drove in a run. Jason Kubel sparked a four-run rally for the Twins in the fifth with an RBI double to right.

Red Sox on the mound: Josh Beckett allowed just one hit over his first four innings, but was touched up for five hits and four runs in the fifth. Overall, Beckett struck out eight in five innings of work and didn't walk anybody.

Twins on the mound: Glen Perkins gave up four hits and four runs over two innings while walking four. Matt Guerrier didn't fare much better, allowing two hits and two runs over two innings.

Grapefruit League records: Red Sox 9-10-1; Twins 10-10-1.

Up next: Daisuke Matsuzaka takes his turn in the rotation on Wednesday afternoon when the Red Sox face the Pirates in Bradenton, Fla., at 1:05 p.m. ET at McKechnie Field. The Twins send Sidney Ponson to the mound for their home game against the Reds at 12:05 p.m. CT at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers, Fla.
