New York Mets third baseman David Wright and Florida Marlins starter Josh Johnson have been voted Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for June.

Wright led the National League with a .404 (42-104) average and 29 RBI, placed second in slugging (.683) and on-base percentage (.447), and was tied for third in doubles (11), while clubbing six homers and swiping four bases in 26 games. The 2010 N.L. All-Star starting third baseman became the first player in Mets history to hit at least .400 with 25 or more RBI in a calendar month while recording a 29-RBI month for the second time in his career (June, 2006). The 27-year-old had eight three-hit games in June, setting a club record for most games with three-or-more hits by one player in a calendar month. On June 13th, Wright went 3-for-5 with a season-high four RBI in an 11-4 win over the Orioles at Camden Yards. Wright collected 21 RBI off A.L. opponents during the month. His 24 RBI during Interleague Play this year set an N.L. record. This is Wright's second career monthly award. The previous also was in June during the 2006 season.

Johnson, who will be representing the Florida Marlins at the 2010 All-Star Game in Anaheim, compiled a 3-1 record in five June starts with a 1.18 ERA, while striking out 38 in 38.0 innings and walking just six. His ERA was second-best among N.L. starters on the month while placing third in strikeouts. The Oklahoma native allowed no more than two earned runs in each of his starts this month and has not allowed more than two earned runs in nine-consecutive starts (dating back to 5/13). On June 10th, the hard-throwing righty tossed 8.0 shutout innings against the defending National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies, leading his club to a 2-0 victory at Citizens Bank Park. Johnson went 7.0-or-more innings in each of his five starts this month, tossing 8.0 innings in three of them. This is Johnson's first monthly award.

Other players receiving votes for the two awards were Johnson's teammate, Chris Coghlan (.377, 15 2B, 30 R); Wright's teammate, Jonathon Niese (4-0, 2.67, 24 SO); San Diego's Adrian Gonzalez (.363, 7 HR, 23 RBI, 12 2B) and Mat Latos (3-1, 2.37, 34 SO); Milwaukee's Corey Hart (.314, 5 HR, 27 RBI) and Yovani Gallardo (3-1, 2.20, 47 SO); Atlanta's Martín Prado (.353, 41 H, 10 2B) and Billy Wagner (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 9 SV); Cincinnati's Joey Votto (.314, 8 HR, 22 RBI); Colorado's Jason Hammel (4-0, 1.83 ERA, 26 SO); Arizona's Edwin Jackson (2-0, 2.11 ERA, no-hitter 6/25 at Tampa Bay); Philadelphia's Jamie Moyer (4-1, 33.0 IP); Washington's Stephen Strasburg (2-2, 2.27 ERA, 31.2 IP, 48 SO); and Jeff Weaver (3-0, 1.13 ERA) of the Los Angeles Dodgers. David Wright and Josh Johnson will receive specially designed trophies, suitably engraved, to commemorate their Player of the Month and Pitcher of the Month performances.
