Milwaukee Brewers left-hander CC Sabathia, 5-0 with a 1.12 ERA in August, has been voted National League Pitcher of the Month.

Sabathia led the N.L. in ERA and innings pitched with 48.1, was tied with teammate Jeff Suppan for the league-lead with five victories and tied for second with 51 strikeouts. In his six starts, CC tossed three complete games, including two shutouts on August 8th vs. Washington and August 31st at Pittsburgh. On August 8th, the 28-year-old allowed one walk and five hits with nine strikeouts, and on August 31st, he allowed one hit with three walks and 11 strikeouts. The Vallejo, California native struck out eight batters-or-more five times, including three nine-strikeout efforts. During the month, he allowed a total of six earned runs and eight walks. The 2007 A.L. Cy Young Award Winner has won a career-high 12 consecutive decisions over his past 16 starts, dating back to June 10th. For the season, Sabathia is 15-8 with a 2.82 ERA and 208 strikeouts in 210.1 innings pitched. Since joining the Brewers, he is 9-0 with a 1.43 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 88.0 innings pitched. Six of Sabathia's nine complete games this season have come after the trade, including three of his five shutouts. CC has now won monthly pitcher honors in July and August, marking the fourth time since 2000 that a N.L. pitcher has won the award in consecutive months (Jake Peavy, August-September 2007; Mark Prior, August-September, 2003; and Greg Maddux, June-July, 2001). Sabathia was also Pitcher of the Month in May 2006 as a member of the Cleveland Indians.

Other pitchers receiving votes were San Francisco's Tim Lincecum (4-0, 1.27 ERA, 54 SO); Chicago's Rich Harden (3-0, 1.82 ERA, 36 SO); and Houston's Jose Valverde (10 SV, 0.64 ERA, 17 SO). CC Sabathia will receive a specially-designed trophy to commemorate his Pitcher of the Month performance.
