BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox today activated infielder Alex Cora from the 15-day disabled list. Cora will be in uniform for tonight's game in Minnesota.

To make room for Cora, infielder Jed Lowrie was optioned to Pawtucket.

The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein.

Cora was placed on the disabled list on April 16, retroactive to April 10, with a right elbow sprain. He completed a 3-game rehab assignment at Pawtucket on Saturday, going 3-for-11in 2 starts at 2nd base and one at shortstop. Cora is 3-for-3 in 3 games with the Red Sox this season.

Lowrie is batting .310 with one homer and 7 RBI in 17 games with Boston since joining the club on April 10.

In addition, righthanded pitcher Bryan Corey, who was on the Triple-A Pawtucket roster, today was traded to the San Diego Padres for a player to be named later or cash. Corey joined the Padres in San Diego today. He had a 10.50 ERA in 7 appearances in 2 stints with the Red Sox and had pitched 5.0 scoreless innings in 5 outings with the PawSox. Corey was assigned outright to Pawtucket on April 30 after being designated for assignment on April 29.

Righthanded pitcher Jose Vaquedano was promoted from Double-A Portland to take Corey's spot in Pawtucket.
