BOSTON, MA -- The Red Sox will invite fathers and their children attending Sunday's game with the San Francisco Giants to celebrate Fathers Day with a post-game "Catch in the Park." The Fathers Day Catch is presented by Bank of America.
After the grounds crew prepares the field upon conclusion of the Red Sox-Giants 2:05 p.m. game on Sunday, fathers and their children attending the game will be invited onto the Fenway Park outfield for a brief catch. The Red Sox will supply soft baseballs.
Starting in 2002, in years when the Red Sox have been home on Fathers Day, but on the road for the week thereafter (to repair the field), those fathers who are attending the game are invited to bring their children on the field for a brief catch. When the team is on the road on Fathers Day, and for the week thereafter), the public has been invited to fill the field for this free event. When the team has had a homestand within days of Fathers Day, as was the case in 2006, the Red Sox have invited fathers and children to walk the warning track.
