Pedroia, Pence selected as Rookies of the Month
Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia, who hit .415 (27-65), has been voted American League
Rookie of the Month for May, while Houston Astros outfielder Hunter Pence, who led all rookies with 19 RBI,
has earned National League Rookie of the Month honors.
Pedroia hit six doubles, two home runs and drove in nine RBI. The 24-year old compiled a .600 slugging
percentage and a .472 on-base percentage over 21 games played. He is currently in the midst of a 13-game
hit-streak. Dustin is hitting .336 with two home runs and 16 RBI during the 2007 season.
Pence led all National League rookies with four home runs. He recorded a .593 slugging percentage and a
.372 on base percentage over 28 games played. The 24-year old batted .343 (37-108) and added 11 runs,
nine doubles, three triples and three stolen bases.
Other National League rookies receiving votes included Arizona's Mark Reynolds (.426, 4 HR, 15 RBI); San
Diego's Justin Germano (3-0, 1.08 ERA, 9 SO) and Kevin Kouzmanoff (.303, 3 HR, 18 RBI); Troy Tulowitzki
(.303, 6 2B, 12 RBI) of the Rockies; and Tim Lincecum (2-0, 3.24 ERA, 33 SO) of the Giants.
Reggie Willits of the LA Angels of Anaheim (.330, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 9 SB) finished one vote behind Pedroia.
Also receiving votes was last month's rookie winner, Hideki Okajima of the Red Sox (1.38 ERA, 3 SV); Travis
Buck of the Athletics (.352, 4 HR, 7 RBI); Jeremy Guthrie of the Orioles (2-0, 1.78 ERA, 20 SO); and Seattle's
Brandon Morrow (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 12 SO).
