Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez, who recorded the 40th multi-home run game of his career, has been named Bank of America Presents the American League Player of the Week for the week ending April 24th. Bank of America, the official bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the American League and National League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the bank's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

In seven games last week, Ramirez batted .364 (8-22) while leading the league with four home runs, 10 RBI, and eight runs scored. The reigning World Series MVP also set the pace in slugging percentage at 1.091 and total bases with 24. Last Monday, Ramirez celebrated Patriot's Day in Boston with two home runs and five RBI against Toronto. The following day Ramirez connected again for his 44th career home run against the Blue Jays, the most by an opposing hitter. This is the 12th career Player of the Week Award for Ramirez. Only Frank Thomas of the Chicago White Sox has won more weekly honors (13) since the award began in 1990.

Other candidates included Ramirez's teammate, Johnny Damon (.419, 5 R); Kevin Mench (.476, .952 SLG) of Texas; Minnesota's Jacque Jones (.500, .619 OBP); Chicago's Joe Crede (.423, 20 TB); Cleveland's Ronnie Belliard (.375, 3 HR); Vladimir Guerrero (.407, 2 HR) of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim; and Alex Rodriguez (.357, 9 RBI) and Jorge Posada (.400, 8 RBI) of the New York Yankees.

Pitchers on the ballot included Cliff Lee (2-0, 0.00 ERA, 14.0 IP) of the Indians; Baltimore's Sidney Ponson (2-0, 3.00 ERA, 11 SO); and Seattle's Jamie Moyer (2-0, 2.57 ERA, 14.0 IP).

Tourneau, the world's largest watch store, is proud to award the Bank of America Presents the American League Player of the Week Manny Ramirez with an engraved Tourneau luxury Swiss timepiece.
