Dodgers' Beltre, Cubs' Zambrano NL Player, Pitcher of Month
tickets for any Major League Baseball game
Los Angeles' Adrian Beltre, who hit .350 with 23 RBI, and the Cubs' Carlos Zambrano, who was 4-0 with a 1.01 ERA, have been voted National League Player and Pitcher of the Month of September, respectively.

Zambrano started five games, pitched a total of 35.2 innings and allowed 27 hits, a home run and 11 walks while striking out 28. He constructed the lowest ERA among all NL starters for the month and raised his win total to 16, a career high. This is the first Pitcher of the Month Award for Zambrano.

Beltre connected for six homers to raise his season total to a career-high and Major League best 48. Over 27 games, he recorded 36 hits in 103 at bats, hitting safely in 23 games. Beltre included six doubles and scored 13 runs in that span. This is his first National League Player of the Month Award.

In an extremely competitive month, three votes separated the four top players. Barry Bonds of the Giants (.349, 7 HR, 13 RBI); Lance Berkman of the Astros (.362, 6 HR, 20 RBI); Todd Helton of the Rockies (.414, 4 HR, 19 RBI) were right behind Beltre in the voting. Albert Pujols of the Cardinals (.344, 5 HR, 18 RBI); Aramis Ramirez of the Cubs (.326, 8 HR, 16 RBI); Juan Pierre of the Marlins (.352, 8 SB); Ryan Klesko of the Padres (.380, 3 HR, 13 RBI); Jason Kendall of the Pirates (.400, 9 RBI); J.D. Drew of the Braves (.315, 2 HR, 10 RBI); Vinny Castilla of the Rockies (.263, 8 HR, 25 RBI); Jason Bay of the Pirates (.260, 6 HR, 22 RBI); and Tony Batista of the Expos (9 HR, 26 RBI) also received votes.

Other pitchers receiving votes were: Houston's Roger Clemens (4-0, 2.57 ERA, 46 SO) and Brad Lidge (9 SV, 1.59 ERA); John Thomson of the Braves (4-0, 1.36 ERA); and Carl Pavano of the Marlins (3-3, 3.02 ERA).

Beltre and Zambrano will each receive a specially designed trophy for being voted National League Player and Pitcher of the Month.
