HBP call stands following Rockies' challenge
Cards' Carpenter awarded first base in seventh inning ahead of Adams' HR
DENVER -- From the sound of it, fans at Coors Field on Monday night believed Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter deserved some kind of acting award in the seventh inning, although they didn't applaud the performance.
Plate umpire Will Little ruled that a pitch from Rockies left-hander Franklin Morales hit Carpenter with no outs and a runner already at first base, and Rockies manager Walt Weiss challenged.
Although the replay shown to fans and run repeatedly on the Rockies' broadcast on Root Sports Rocky Mountain left fans believing Carpenter was not hit, the call stood. Rockies fans reacted with angry boos.
Two batters later, Matt Adams homered off Morales for an 8-0 lead.
