Braves and Twins complete two-player trade
Atlanta acquires switch-hitting catcher Ryan Doumit
The Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins announced today that they have completed a two-player trade. The Braves have acquired catcher Ryan Doumit in exchange for minor-league left-handed pitcher Sean Gilmartin.
Doumit, 32, spent the last two seasons with the Twins and is a veteran of nine Major League campaigns, having also played seven seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2005-11). He owns a .268 career batting average with 99 home runs and 396 RBI in 880 games. Doumit owns a .262 (28-for-107) average as a pinch-hitter.
The switch-hitter has reached double figures in home runs in five of the past six seasons and batted .247 with 14 home runs and 55 RBI this past season. Doumit hit .275 with career highs of 18 homers and 75 RBI in 2012 and batted .303 in 2011. He notched a career-best batting average of .318 in 2008.
The versatile Doumit has made 639 defensive starts, including 502 as catcher, 89 in right field, 32 at first base and 16 in left field.
Gilmartin, 23, was selected by Atlanta in the first round of the 2011 draft out of Florida State University.
