MLB Press Release
World Series viewership up +15% through three games
Thrilling Cardinals win is most-viewed Game 3 since 2009, dominating all TV competition
With a tense, back and forth game featuring a wild finish that will be talked about for years to come, Game 3 of the 2013 World Series led FOX to another dominant primetime victory and was by far the most talked-about TV show on social media yet again.
In front of a Busch Stadium record 47,432 fans, Saturday's 5-4 victory by the Cardinals over the Red Sox - the record-tying 13th one-run game of the 2013 Postseason - drew 12.5 million viewers on FOX, up +19% over Game 3 in 2012 and ranking as the most-watched World Series Game 3 since 2009 based on Nielsen data. FOX averaged a 7.4 fast national rating for the game, up +21% over Game 3 in 2012, and leading to a dominant win in primetime, where FOX topped the second place network by +173% and beat the other three broadcast networks combined based on metered market ratings.
Overall, the 2013 World Series is averaging 13.4 million viewers through three games, up +15% over last year and the highest average through three games since 2010.
In St. Louis, the game drew a 37.2 rating with a 62 share (percentage of available TVs tuned in), the best for any game in the market since Game 7 of the 2011 World Series. In Boston, the game drew a 32.4 rating.
The World Series was also once again the most talked about show on Twitter in primetime by a very wide margin. Game 3 drew 482,228 total tweets by 211,100 unique authors, nearly six times as many tweets as anything else on opposite it Saturday night (+472% over the second place show, according to data from SocialGuide). There were 110,238 tweets sent within five minutes after the end of the game, making the wild finish of Game 3 the most talked-about moment of the 2013 Postseason. In fact, it topped every moment of the 2012 Postseason except the Giants winning the World Series (158,747 comments).
The World Series continues tonight, with Game 4 scheduled to begin at 8:15pm ET / 7:15pm CT on FOX.
