Voting for All-Fenway Team gets under way
Red Sox fans can weigh in by casting ballots through June 3
BOSTON -- Fenway Park's 100th anniversary includes the unveiling of an All-Fenway Team before this year's All-Star break.
On Monday, the voting for that team began at RedSox.com and FenwayPark100.com, with a ballot compiled by historians and front office staff.
Feel like Jon Lester has been a better southpaw starter than Babe Ruth? Or that Pedro Martinez's dominance meant more to the Red Sox than Tim Wakefield's longevity? Voting for the best righty and lefty starters in team history opened Monday and runs through Feb. 26.
The complete voting schedule is as follows:
Feb. 13-26: Right-handed and left-handed starting pitchers
Feb. 27-March 11: Catcher and first base
March 12-25: Second base and third base
March 26-April 8: Shortstop, bench and bullpen
April 9-22: Left field
April 23-May 6: Right field and designated hitter
May 7-20: Center field and manager
May 21-June 3: The 10th Man
All categories are self-explanatory, except for the last to be decided. The 10th Man is a last-chance vote for the top five second-place finishers across all categories.
Once the winners are announced, the winning players and/or their families will be recognized in pregame ceremonies in the second half of 2012.
