Red Sox sign 13 to contracts for 2010
Ellsbury biggest name of players not arbitration-eligible
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The number 13 was a lucky one for the Red Sox on Monday.
That was the number of players the team announced it had signed to contracts for the 2010 season.
The players who agreed to terms were: pitchers Daniel Bard ($415,000), Michael Bowden, Clay Buchholz ($443,000), Felix Doubront, Ramon A. Ramirez and Dustin Richardson; catchers Dusty Brown and Mark Wagner; infielders Aaron Bates, Tug Hulett and Jed Lowrie; and outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury ($496,500) and Josh Reddick. None of the 13 players have enough Major League service time to qualify for arbitration. Ellsbury, the biggest name on the list, will be eligible next offseason.
With the agreements, all 39 players on Boston's Major League roster are under contract for the 2010 season.
