Farrell out of running to be Tribe manager
Red Sox pitching coach concentrating on upcoming playoffs

Boston pitching coach John Farrell has removed himself as a candidate to replace dismissed Cleveland manager Eric Wedge, source have told ESPN. The sports network's Web site reported Saturday evening that Farrell, completing his third season on Boston's staff, has informed the Indians that he should be removed from consideration. Following the Indians' 11-6 loss to the Red Sox on Saturday night, Farrell declined comment.Due to terms of Farrell's contract, the two clubs would have had to negotiate his possible return to Cleveland, where he served as director of player development for five years through 2006.
However, that does not appear to have been a factor in his decision to withdraw from consideration. ESPN also indicated that in their managerial search, the Indians were expected to interview former Rangers and Mets manager Bobby Valentine, who upon completing a six-year managerial stint in Japan this week accepted a position as a studio analyst for ESPN's baseball coverage.Tom Singer is a reporter for MLB.com and writes an MLBlog, Change for a Nickel.
