Richardson heads Boston's AFL contingent

Fifth-round pick from '06 one of four headed to Arizona

08/25/09 7:00 PM ET

BOSTON -- Four Red Sox Minor Leaguers are scheduled to participate in the Arizona Fall League later this year.

Triple-A Pawtucket pitcher Dustin Richardson will join a trio of Double-A Portland players -- catcher Luis Exposito, outfielder Ryan Kalish and pitcher Chris Province -- in suiting up for the Mesa Solar Sox, a club comprised of prospects from the Angels, Cubs, Marlins, Twins and Red Sox organizations.

The 18th annual Arizona Fall League begins Oct. 13 and runs through Nov. 19, with the Rising Stars game on Nov. 7 and the championship tilt set for Nov. 21. Every contest can be followed live on MLB.com Gameday and MLBFallBall.com.

Selected by Boston in the fifth round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, the left-handed Richardson posted a 2.70 ERA in 38 appearances (63 1/3 innings) for Portland this season before earning an Aug. 21 promotion to Pawtucket, where he had tossed two scoreless innings through Tuesday.

Exposito, rated by Baseball America as the 15th-best prospect in the Red Sox's organization, has also been promoted in 2009. Since being summoned to Portland from Class A Salem on Aug. 4, the Miami, Fla., native is batting .361 with two home runs and nine RBIs in 15 games.

A ninth-round Draft choice in 2006, Kalish has smacked 10 home runs and 45 RBIs in 88 games this season with the Sea Dogs.

Province, a right-hander who owns the all-time saves record at Southeastern Louisiana University, is 2-4 this year with a 2.94 ERA in 39 appearances (70 1/3 innings) for Portland.
