PHOENIX -- In a minor transaction, the Dodgers on Monday night dealt right-handed pitcher Eric Hull to the Boston Red Sox for 23-year-old shortstop Christian Lara.

Hull had been designated for assignment March 31 to make room on the roster for Angel Chavez. Hull, 28, pitched in five games for the Dodgers last year and spent the rest of the season at Triple-A Las Vegas, where he had a 2.74 ERA.

Lara, who came into this season with a .258 career batting average, had been playing at Class A this year, his sixth professional season after signing out of Venezuela.
