Nationals at the plate: The Nationals collected four hits in the game. Left-hander Odalis Perez had one of the hits, when he singled to center field in the sixth inning.
Cardinals at the plate: Jason LaRue drove in the first run of the game in the second inning, when he grounded out to second baseman Ronnie Belliard to drive in Troy Glaus. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Albert Pujols drove in two runs with a single to center field.
Nationals on the mound: Perez pitched six innings and gave up three runs on seven hits. He struck out five batters and walked one.
Cardinals on the mound: Right-hander Anthony Reyes pitched six shutout innings and gave up three hits. He struck out two batters and walked one.
Grapefruit League records: Nationals 10-17-2, Cardinals 15-10-1.
Up next for the Cardinals: St. Louis hosts the Orioles on Wednesday in Jupiter, Fla., at 12:05 p.m. CT. Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright will face Baltimore right-hander Jeremy Guthrie.
Up next for the Nationals: Washington heads to Lake Buena Vista, Fla., to play the Braves on Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. ET. Washington left-hander Matt Chico will face Braves right-hander Jeff Bennett. The last time these two teams met was on last Saturday, with the Nationals defeating the Braves, 4-1.
