It was an ugly Friday for Chicago. One day after storms disrupted daily life in the city on the shores of Lake Michigan, the White Sox were blown away in a doubleheader by the AL East-leading Red Sox.

The South Siders gave up a combined 21 runs in the twin bill as both starters, Jon Garland and John Danks, were chased from the action early.

"We come [Saturday] and pitch the same way, it's going to be the same history," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "We have to pitch better."

The Sox will also be shorthanded on the offensive front. Both Scott Podsednik and Jim Thome are expected to be unavailable for Saturday's ballgame. Since the White Sox have 13 pitchers on the roster, it leaves Chicago with just one offensive reserve -- the backup catcher.

The White Sox have lost 11 of their last 13 games.

Pitching matchup
CWS: LHP Mark Buehrle (9-8, 3.42 ERA)
The Sox are counting on Buehrle to deliver in what has been a very lopsided series against the Red Sox this season. Boston has taken five of the six games played between the two sides, although the star southpaw has yet to showcase his talent against the Red Sox yet this season. Buehrle is 4-3 with a 4.31 ERA against Boston in his career.

BOS: RHP Tim Wakefield (15-10, 4.35 ERA)
Wakefield has been as steady as always in 2007 and until teammate Josh Beckett picked up a win on Friday, the knuckleballer was tied for tops in Major League Baseball in the category. Wakefield picked up a win against the White Sox in Boston on July 22, going 6 1/3 innings while allowing four earned runs.

Player to watch
Darin Erstad has been swinging a hot bat for the Sox in a reserve role, but with the injury to Podsednik, he looks to become an everyday contributor. The scrappy outfielder had three hits in Friday's doubleheader.
