Jackson to close out series
Boston (76-50) at Tampa Bay (47-78), Wednesday, 7:10 p.m. ET
Edwin Jackson will start for the Rays on Wednesday, when they wrap up their three-game set with the Red Sox at Tropicana Field.
Although he picked up his 12th loss of the season on Friday night against the Indians, the right-hander overcame seven hits and five walks to record his fourth consecutive quality start. Jackson continues to show quality stuff with an above-average fastball and a much improved slider and changeup. Jackson has struggled against the Red Sox, posting an 0-1 record with an 8.68 ERA in four career appearances.Daisuke Matsuzaka didn't have his best stuff against Tampa Bay on Wednesday. By allowing four runs in the third inning, he gave the Devil Rays a lead that rookie Andy Sonnanstine wouldn't relinquish. Matsuzaka remained in the game and was sharp until he left after the sixth, after which he'd already given up six runs on eight hits and three walks. He is 1-2 with a 3.54 ERA in three career starts against the Rays. After the Red Sox depart town, the Rays will play four games against the A's before going back on the road to play six contests against the Orioles and Yankees. Pitching matchup
