The Devil Rays begin a nine-game homestand with a three-game series that gets under way on Friday night in a 7:10 ET contest at Tropicana Field.

Jason Hammel will start for the Rays after a spot start against the Yankees on Saturday that saw him pitch well, allowing two runs in four innings. He would have gone farther, but he has been pitching in relief and was not "stretched out" enough. Hammel possesses a nice variety of pitches and will be given a strong opportunity to show that he belongs in the rotation. He is 0-1 with a 10.50 ERA in three appearances against the Red Sox.

Tim Wakefield will start for the Red Sox after gaining his 11th win of the season on Sunday, when he surrendered four earned runs in 6 1/3 innings against the White Sox. Wakefield is 16-2 with a 3.01 ERA in 33 career appearances against Tampa Bay.

After finishing with the Red Sox, the Rays will play the Blue Jays in a three-game series before playing three against the Orioles.
