Cubs at the plate: The Cubs jumped all over the Brewers' top pitching prospect, Yovani Gallardo, scoring five first-inning runs on five hits, including Jacque Jones' three-run home run. It was the first homer of the spring for Jones, who finished 2-for-4 and scored twice. The Cubs' first four hitters (Felix Pie, Mark DeRosa, Jones and Daryle Ward) combined for eight hits, nine runs scored and seven RBIs. Ward, who entered the day 3-for-27, led the way with a pair of doubles and four RBIs.

Brewers at the plate: Ryan Braun hit his Major League-leading fifth spring home run, a pinch-hit, three-run shot, and Bill Hall also homered, but the Brewers lost for the second straight day. Braun tied for the homer lead with Houston's Jason Lane, who went deep twice earlier on Monday.

Cubs on the mound: Sean Gallagher started and allowed three runs on three hits in three innings. Sean Marshall turned in a scoreless inning in his Cactus League debut, allowing one hit and striking out one in the fifth.

Brewers on the mound: Gallardo was hit hard in the first inning, falling into a 5-0 hole after allowing five hits. Only three of the five runs were earned because of an error charged to first baseman Prince Fielder. Former closer Derrick Turnbow preserved his perfect Cactus League ERA with a scoreless ninth inning.

Cactus League records: Cubs 11-8; Brewers 9-12.

Up next: The Cubs will travel to Tucson on Tuesday for the last time this spring, going up against the Rockies at 3:05 p.m. CT. Left-hander Ted Lilly will make his third start and fourth Cactus League appearance. Also scheduled to pitch is closer Ryan Dempster, who was sidelined for a few days because of spasms in his shoulders.

After taking Tuesday off, the Brewers will return to action against the Padres at 3:05 p.m. CT on Wednesday in Peoria. Claudio Vargas is scheduled to start for Milwaukee against San Diego's Clay Hensley. Chris Spurling, Jose Capellan, Francisco Cordero and Brian Shouse are also on the list to pitch for Milwaukee.
