Cubs at the plate: Ronny Cedeno hit an RBI triple in the eighth, and then scored to tie the game at 5. He was 1-for-3. Right fielder Buck Coats went 2-for-5 with a run scored and center fielder Felix Pie was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Diamondbacks at the plate: Scott Hairston doubled off the center-field wall, scoring Robby Hammock from second for the game-winning RBI. Hairston was 2-for-2 with two doubles. For the second straight game at Tucson Electric Park, Eric Byrnes was 3-for-3 with a leadoff home run into the right-field bullpen. Byrnes also scored twice and hit a double. Tuesday's homer came off Cubs starter Wade Miller's first pitch. Carlos Quentin hit a sixth-inning homer, his second this spring.

Cubs on the mound: Miller started and went four innings, allowing two earned runs off five hits and two walks. He struck out five. Ryan Dempster pitched the seventh inning, allowing one run off two hits. Scott Eyre pitched a scoreless, hitless eighth. Rocky Cherry (0-1) took the loss, unable to retire a hitter in the ninth. He allowed two hits, one earned run and walked a batter.

Diamondbacks on the mound: Micah Owings, the 25-year-old right hander fighting for the fifth spot in the rotation, threw three scoreless innings. He allowed one hit, one walk and struck out four. Juan Cruz struck out three in two innings of work, allowing two earned runs off three hits and two walks. Mike Schultz (1-0) blew the save opportunity but picked up the win in two innings of work. He allowed three hits, two earned runs and walked two.

Up next: The Diamondbacks have an off-day Wednesday and return to the field Thursday at Tucson Electric Park against the Texas Rangers. Edgar Gonzalez is scheduled to get the start for the Diamondbacks. Brandon Medders, Casey Daigle and Tony Pena are also expected to pitch. Lefty Doug Slaten is still listed as a pitcher expected to get some work in, but may be scratched after he took a line drive off his left forearm in Monday's game against the Colorado Rockies.

The Cubs also will be off Wednesday and host Seattle on Thursday. Ted Lilly will start for the Cubs against the Mariners' Cha Seung Baek.
