FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Backed by Kelly Shoppach (double, triple, two RBIs), the Red Sox rolled to an 11-5 victory over Boston College on Friday night in a seven-inning exhibition. Earlier in the day, the Sox coasted to a 17-0 triumph over Northeastern University.

Neither game counts in the Grapefruit League standings.

Reliever Mike Timlin made a rare start for the Sox, pitching a scoreless inning and earning the win.

Veteran relievers Alan Embree and Matt Mantei (one scoreless inning each) were also sharp.

Hyde Park, Mass., native Manny Delcarmen struggled for the Red Sox, giving up three runs and five hits over one-third of an inning.

Top prospect Hanley Ramirez went 1-for-3, scoring a run, driving in a run and stealing a base.
