How the Red Sox were built
When Theo Epstein was named Boston's 11th general manager, the endless jokes
started immediately about the 29-year-old taking over the club. But his
dealmaking helped lead Boston back to its first postseason berth in four
years. Epstein completely rebuilt the club, replacing three-fourths of the infield,
adding designated hitter David Ortiz and bringing in important bench players
like Gabe Kapler and Damian Jackson. In all, 14 of the 25 players on the postseason roster were not with Boston a year ago. Here's what Epstein did as GM to build this year's Red Sox:

RHP Brandon Lyon claimed off waivers from Blue Jays in October.
