ST. PETERSBURG -- Trot Nixon doesn't know if he'll get another at-bat before the regular season ends, but the important thing is that the right fielder is fully confident he'll be in the lineup on Wednesday night when the Red Sox play at Oakland in Game 1 of the Division Series.

"I feel a lot better," said Nixon. "I felt good today. I feel very confident that I'll be fine for Wednesday. I don't know how I'll feel after running. It's kind of a wait and see type of thing until I do some things."

Nixon was in the midst of a career year before sustaining a strained left calf on Sept. 9. That injury has made the last couple of weeks a stressful time for Nixon.

He returned to the lineup on Sept. 20, but made just three starts before aggravating the injury.

Nixon last played on Sept. 23. Will he at least DH on Sunday?

"That's my whole intention to do that, but I don't know what [manager Grady Little's] going to feel like," Nixon said.
