In the early going, Florida starter Josh Beckett matched his counterpart pitch-for-pitch. But he allowed his only run in the fourth inning, while his teammates struggled to generate offense at Pacific Bell Park. The Giants scored two runs Tuesday afternoon, but that proved to be more than enough for starter Jason Schmidt. Schmidt hurled a three-hit, complete-game shutout. Edgardo Alfonzo was a big part of the Giants offense, as he went 2-for-4, including a double that drove in the second run of the game to help his team take a 1-0 series lead. Full story >
