This Day in Baseball History
August 21, 1975 > Tony Conigliaro of the Boston Red Sox announces his retirement after an attempted comeback. Conigliaro appeared on the verge of stardom in 1967, when a near-fatal beaning curtailed his career. He returned in 1969 before suffering problems with his vision, which caused him to retire for the first time in 1971.
